Not sure which model toilet you have? Try looking under the toilet tank lid or inside of the toilet tank.
Kohler transitioned from the old style to the new style in 1973.
There are only slight differences between the two styles. The plungers (#1 and #2) in the old style are different than the plungers (#8 and #9) in the new style. The other difference is where the tank ball lift wire guide is located. The new style has the lift wire guide attached to the refill tube and the old style has the lift wire guide attached to a post on the flush valve seat.
If your tank ball lift wire guide is attached to the refill tube
then you have the new style and the plunger parts you will need are the #8 (#51429) plunger only or
the #9 (#30166) valve service kit. If your tank ball lift wire guide is attached to a post on the flush valve seat then you have the old style and the plunger parts you will need are the #1 (#51748) plunger only or
the #2 (#30100) plunger service kit.
