Caring for your Teak

Teak can withstand different weather patterns and climates making it a wonderful material for floor mats and a variety of bathroom accessories. However, like anything used on a regular basis, a little upkeep may be needed every once in a while. We proudly offer the products to help you maintain your teak and keep it looking its best. We offer a deep cleaning kit designed to clean without harming the wood or your hands - it even includes a bit of teak conditioning oil as a finishing step. To maintain the rich tones of the woods, it is recommended that you apply teak oil to heavily used items, or items exposed to water or steam every 6 months, so we offer two sizes of oil for just this purpose. Should you wish to add or replace the rubberized strips along the bottom of any product, a maintenance kit is also available. Please note, though the kits are specifically sized for the mats, the rubberized strips may be cut to fit other products as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. "What is the difference between the Burmese Teak and Plantation Teak?"
A. The manufacturer states that the Burmese teak they use is "made of pure heartwood from mature Teak trees grown in the Indonesia/South East Asia region. Heartwood Teak provides an elegant piece with unique grain patterns and a beautiful rich color giving any area an immediate WOW factor. The high silica content in teak makes it an ideal wood to use when a slip resistant surface is needed and the natural oil makes the wood resistant to mold and mildew." The plantation teak is FSC certified and "comes from trees harvested from an actual plantation of younger Teak trees. Since we only use the heartwood of the tree, it has all the same qualities of old growth Burmese Teak but it is a little lighter in color." In both cases, the manufacturer states that the teak is harvested from reclaimed, sustainable forests, working with reputable, certified growers dedicated to maintaining the world's rainforests.

Q. "I would love to order one of the custom shower mats, but my shower floor slopes down to the drain. Will my shower mat be stable and secure?"
A. According to the manufacturer, these mats rest on a least three wooden "feet" that run the width of the mat. These feet have a premium non-slip rubber strip bonded to them that compresses and grips the shower floor in six spots, creating a safe, comfortable , stable place to stand, while still allowing water to drain effectively.

Q. "How does the water drain off the mat?"
A. Actually, the water drains right through the mat. These mats are built with 1/8-inch spaces between the slats so that water drains right through to the shower drain. In addition, the legs of the mat are situated so as not to interfere with drainage.

Q. "Will the mat slide around or move on the wet shower floor?"
A. According to the manufacturer, the bottom of each floor mat features germ-free rubber strips to keep the mat stable and slip-resistant while showering.

Q. "Will the mat stain my marble or tile shower floor?"
A. No. One of the great things about teak is that it's rich color does not have to be enhanced with dyes or stains, so you get a great-looking mat that will not discolor your fine shower surfaces in any way.

Q. "Do I have to worry about mold or mildew with my in-shower mat?"
A. No. Teak is renowned worldwide for its resistance to mold, mildew and rot. It is also germ-free and all our mats are sanded smooth for maximum comfort against your feet.

Q. "How do I maintain my teak product?"
A. These teak products are as close to maintenance free as you can get. They resist mold or mildew and will maintain their beauty whether finished or unfinished. To maintain the finished look is no different than polishing your wood furniture. Every few months simply apply teak oil (available in any hardware store) to the surface of your product with a cloth. This process takes only a few minutes and will renew the finish on your teak product. Of course, you can choose to let the teak age naturally. In time the teak oil will dissipate and the teak's natural oil content will continue to ward off mold and mildew. For information on the care of teak, click here.

Q. "How do I clean a teak floor mat?"
A. Cleaning teak is very simple. Use a mild solution of soap and water (for heavily soiled teak a mild solution of bleach and water) simply apply to the surface of the product and wipe or scrub off. This will remove the surface dirt and restore the teak to its natural beauty.

Please note: While we strive to ensure every product we label as "Made in the USA" really is 100% made in the USA, it is also important to understand that sometimes manufacturers make changes to their products, or for various reasons may receive components or materials that they would normally purchase domestically from an overseas supplier - and they don't necessarily let distributors (like us!) know that they've changed something about the product or where it is manufactured.

If you receive a product that® says is "Made in the USA" and the product states it was manufactured elsewhere, please contact us. We will happily replace or refund your purchase to your satisfaction.
