Q. "I purchased a new Delta tub spout. Now how do I remove the existing brass insert soldered onto my copper pipe?"
A. If your new Delta spout includes a new brass insert you do not need to remove your old brass insert unless the external threads are messed up. The Delta spout will thread directly onto your existing brass insert. You can then either discard the new brass insert or keep it in case you decide to use it at a later date. If you must remove your existing brass insert and it is soldered on to your pipe you will need to heat the brass insert with a torch and with a pair of pump pliers or channel locks grab the brass insert and slide it off the end of the copper pipe once the solder begins to melt and soften. Put the insert immediately into cold water to cool it off.
