Frequently Asked Questions
Q. "How do I clean my sink?"
A. A regular cleaning is important to maintain the appearance of your sink. Apply stainless steel cleaner/polish with a non-abrasive cloth or sponge, working with, not across, the grain. Do not use any type of abrasive cleaning tools or agents as they may tarnish the finish. Cleaners containing chloride are not recommended. If used, rinse the surface immediately to prevent corrosion. After every use, rinse thoroughly and wipe the sink dry following the sink grain. This will prevent water spots and mineral deposits. By following these simple steps your sinks beauty and durability will withstand the test of time.
Q. "It's great that recycled steel is eco-friendly, but is it going to be as strong and durable and pretty as new steel?"
A. Yes! Stainless steel continues to be improved and upgraded, as are the recycling processes for this metal. Unlike some other materials, stainless steel doesn't degrade or lose any of its valuable properties (i.e., strength, durability, etc.) during the recycling process. Nor does it lose luster or purity in appearance, so with polishing and proper maintenance it will be just as pretty as new steel. In short, if you installed a new steel and a recycled steel sink made on the same production line side by side, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in performance or appearance.
Q. "Please explain the best gauge of stainless and which is longer lasting?"
A. The lower the number, the thicker the material. In our opinion, 22 gauge is bare minimum - builder quality. During the manufacturing process, stainless steel sinks are "stamped" into shape. That means that the material stretches and therefore the corners can be very thin. We suggest at least 20 gauge and preferably 18 gauge. Stainless can scratch and with a mirror finish those scratches will show. We recommend that you do not purchase any brand mirror finished stainless sink (no matter what the price or claimed quality).
