Depending on the arrangement of your bathroom, having a wall mounted shower seat with built-in legs may not be a good option. We have heard this is particularly true with tub/shower combinations. When installing a folding shower seat in conjunction with a tub, these end or rear hung shower seats may make more sense for you as the seat can fold down to use the ledges of the tub as part of the support structure. We also offer a portable seat that uses your tub's exposed ledge for support. One side grips the edge of the tub while the other side uses stainless steel legs for support, creating a sturdy yet portable tub seat. These seats are best for straight ledged tubs (not curved), especially if you find that your tub height is perfect for sitting on already!

Q. "What is the difference between Phenolic (Teak or White) & Naugahyde?"
A. Phenolic is a hard, dense, resin material that is light weight, resistant to flexing, and incredibly strong. Naugahyde is a synthetic, leather-like material. Seats made from Phenolic will be hard, while the Naugahyde seats will be padded.

Q. "Is the Phenolic Teak made from real Teak?"
A. The Phenolic Teak seats we offer are made from a hard, dense, resin material that is light weight, resistant to flexing, and incredibly strong. A finish is added to make them resemble the color of some varieties of teak, but Phenolic Teak seats are not made from real wood. Unlike wooden seats, phenolic teak seats do not require oiling, will not splinter, and does not support the growth of bacteria; phenolic teak seats are virtually maintenance-free!

Q. "What is the maximum weight capacity for these seats?"
A. When properly installed, all Seachrome shower seats have been designed and manufactured to support loads exceeding the downward pull requirements for Federal specifications FHA, VA, HUD, hospital codes, and private construction. The actual "in use" load bearing capacity of any shower seat, however, will be limited by the strength of its mounting surface and installation hardware. Seachrome recommends that shower seats be installed using 2" minimum thickness "in wall" solid wood backing material with #10 x 2" stainless steel, phillips-head, sheet metal screws, or using a wall embedded, minimum 12 ga. (2.8mm) steel anchor plate with #10 x 24 stainless steel machine screws. Please contact the factory for further mounting recommendations. Under no circumstances should any shower seat be mounted to drywall, sheetrock, plaster, fiberglass, acrylic or other similar "hollow" wall surfaces without appropriate wood or steel backing material.
