"What does the thermal overload protection do for my pump?"
The thermal overload protection is a built-in safety feature just in case the pump becomes overheated (clogged up by leaves, debris, etc). It will turn off the pump if it starts to overheat. Then, when it cools down, it will turn the pump back on.
"What is the minimum sump diameter?"
The minimum sump diameter is the amount of clearance you need around
your pump so that it will run without problems. Note: for automatic models, if the diameter is too small the float
switch could get caught and the pump could be turned on when it should be shutting off.
"What is a VMF switch?"
A VMF (vertical magnet float) switch is an alternative to the normal
float switch that turns on most automatic pumps. The VMF switch uses a magnet instead of a ball in the float. Since the
VMF switch only moves up and down, it requires less room to turn the pump on and off than the normal float switch. This means
it only needs a 10" diameter instead of a 14" diameter clearance, so it can be placed in a smaller hole to pump out water
than the other pumps.
"What are these pumps generally used for?"
These pumps are designed to pump water around your home. For example, if you have a basement or other areas around your home that flood, then you can use one of these pumps to pump water out. You can also use it to pump water out of your pool, or for gray water. Please note: these pumps are not designed to pump sewage.
