"What is a volute/diffuser/impeller?"
A volute is a housing for the diffuser and impeller. The diffuser fits around the rotating impeller, which circulates water through the pump. The diffuser strips water from the impeller forcing water out the discharge line of the pump. This action reduces the velocity of water through the pump while also increasing the static pressure.
